
This year, make sure your New Year’s fitness resolution includes your kids. Doing so could make working out and losing weight a lot more fun, according to fitness expert Michael Berry.
Berry, director of the Human Performance Laboratory at Wake Forest University, said fitness with the kids must include more than a predictable schedule. You must engage the kids and even make exercise a little unusual to get them excited about working out.
“If you say, we’re going to take the kids out for a walk this evening, most kids are going to say, ‘Wait, we have to leave the video games or television?’” Berry said. “Kids like to play games, they like to be engaged, so exercise needs to be something that is sports-oriented or game-oriented.” Read the rest of this entry »

The results, which include information on top trending searches and mobile search terms from webmd.com users, draw from a unique combination of medical insights and user data trends.
“Healthy eating was top of mind this year and concerns about listeria in cantaloupes came in a close second,” said Dr. Michael Smith, WebMD’s Chief Medical Editor. “People were also searching for answers on pancreatic cancer with the passing of Steve Jobs and changes in cancer screening guidelines challenged conventional wisdom on cancer prevention.”

Abbott and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign announced they have established the first-ever multi-disciplinary nutrition and cognition research center, which will be located on the Urbana campus. The Center for Nutrition, Learning, and Memory will lead directed and solicited research on the impact of nutrition on learning and memory in the human brain.
The collaboration between Abbott and Illinois will take the field of nutrition science into new territory, with a focus on resources that historically have rarely been applied to nutrition science research. The center will utilize two world-renowned research facilities on the Urbana campus, the Institute for Genomic Biology and Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, in addition to the University’s Division of Nutritional Sciences and Neuroscience Program.
“Combining Abbott’s leadership in science-based nutrition with the best-in-class capabilities at Illinois and the world’s best scientific minds in the areas of nutrition, brain and cognition will allow us to advance unique and meaningful breakthroughs in this area of research,” said Robert H.
