Nutrition Fit For the Whole Family in 2009 Without the Hassle
Among the list of common New Year’s Resolutions, getting fit and eating better are usually at the top. Homemade meals that we commonly assume are healthier than their prepared or quick-service counterparts all too often wind up having higher fat and calories instead. Nutritionist Claudia Gonzalez is helping those making the resolution to eat healthier this new year with some great options found in places that may otherwise be thought of as unexpected.
“We are all in agreement that a sound diet is about making choices and being conscious of calories consumed, especially when trying to drop some pounds with New Year’s resolutions,” said nutritionist Claudia Gonzalez. “Especially with the ‘on-the-go’ lifestyle most New Yorkers lead, it’s important to know that a visit to a McDonald’s restaurant does not need to be detrimental to a diet.”
In fact, McDonald’s has some options that may be surprising when examined against other go-to favorites to help people stick with their resolutions:
- With 290 calories and 11 grams of fat, the McDonald’s Egg McMuffin is healthier than a plain bagel with 2 oz. reduced fat cream cheese, which has 430 calories and 14 grams of fat
- A McDonald’s Happy Meal of 4-piece Chicken McNuggets with BBQ sauce, Apple Dippers with Low Fat Caramel Dip, and a 1% Low Fat White Milk Jug has less fat and calories and more protein than a grilled cheese sandwich with a cup of tomato soup and lemonade
McDonald’s variety of choices and easy customization of meals means that everyone at your kitchen table can walk away satisfied. Plus, McDonald’s food is work-free, which is good news for working moms and families.
